Vertical Tokaji tasting of the Kapi vineyard of Disznókö

Published by at 9:07 pm under Hungarian Wine,Tokaj

It´s not often that the Disznókö estate releases a single vineyard 6 puttonyos Furmint aszú from their site the Kapi growth. The base wine as well as the aszú berries are 100% Furmint and all are originated from the Kapi site. Disznókö is situated in Mezözombor which is sort of a strange village within the region of Tokaj Hegyalja. No underground cellars, fairly flat village and all the vineyards which belong to the commune are situated outside of the village boundaries.

The name of Kapi originates perhaps from the Kapy family name or the village of Kapi, which is today in Slovakia famous for the a castle ruin on top of the mountain. The Kapi vineyard of the Disznókö estate is tucked between Hangács, Illésházy and from the North the Lajosok which is sometimes also yielding single vineyard wines of the estate.

The Kapi vineyard has a mix of rhyolite, tuff and some clay underlined by some loess and within some limestone. Fairly complex soil structure which almost guarantees exciting wines. See for you self

2011 was a cooler year with plenty of rain but the Indian summer saved the vintage. Very well made with a promising future…
